Fat Acceptance - accepting ourselves as we are

Fat Acceptance means that we accept that we and others are all created differently. Some are taller, some shorter, some skinnier, some fatter. It makes no more difference what we weigh than the color of our skin.

Fat Acceptance means we do not "diet" to lose weight (although some may be on a special "diet" for health or moral reasons, such as having Crohn's disease or being a vegetarian). It recognizes that "diets" to lose weight almost always fail and often cause more health problems than it's thought they'll cure. It means that we accept that there can be health at any size.

Fat Acceptance also means bucking against the masses. The general public still makes fat jokes and thinks nothing of it. The media still portrays fat people as overeaters, lazy and ugly. The medical establishments often believe we "must" lose weight to be healthy and may refuse to believe that fat people can be healthy, even in the face of proof.

On the other hand, Fat Acceptance means enjoying life. It means feeling good about ourselves, our lives, our clothes, what we eat and who we spend time with. Fat Acceptance is about living life every day just as we are, just like everyone else.
