The SuperPets

The SuperPets are various animals that have been pets and/or scientific test animals of the family of El.

SuperPets Figures?

Nirah Shomer has made custom SuperPets figures!

SuperPets Tatoos!?

Kevin Fletcher, SuperPet fan supreme, has a Krypto tatoo!

The SuperPets are:

Krypto Krypto was originally bought by Jor-El as a pet for the infant Kal-El on Krypton. However, Jor-El was forced to use Krypto as a test subject in one of his rocket experiments (budget constraints?). Krypto was successfully launched into orbit of Krypton, but a meteor collision knocked his capsule irretrievably into space. When Krypton exploded 58 days later, Krypto's capsule was drawn alsolo with baby Kal-El's rocket.
Unable to break out of the indestructible craft, Krypto was captive in the capsule until it crashed on Earth. After the ship crashed on Earth, Krypto tracked down his master, Clark Kent a.k.a. Superboy, and led him back to the rocket, where Superboy discovered the Super-Dog's origins.
Krypto often disguised himself as Chip, Clark Kent's dog, by using woodstain to create a dark patch over his eye. It was during this time that built the Doghouse of Solitude, a lumpy, orange... thing out in the asteroid belt with a crude sign above the door. It even had exhibits, such as bones.
Krypto eventually left Earth, but returned to Superman years later, old and in bad shape. Krypto flew off into space to die, but found a fountain of youth (of sorts) that rejuvenated him and made him temporarily immune to the Kryptonite meteors that surrounded the Earth. Krypto then returned to Earth, where Superman was amazed at the dog's newfound youth. Krypto then left Earth again, returning only for brief visits.

Krypto was a member of the Space Canine Patrol Agency.

Streaky Streaky began as a normal Earth cat, the pet of Linda Danvers a.k.a. Kara Zor-El a.k.a. Supergirl. His powers derive from Kryptonite-X, one of the many varieties of Kryptonite, and one that was produced in a laboratory by Supergirl, who was attempting to find a cure for Kryptonite. However, the Kryptonite-X made Supergirl sick in a way similar to Green Kryptonite. Thus, she disposed of it. Streaky happened upon the Kryptonite-X and was instantly endowed with a full set of Kryptonian powers. The powers granted by Kryptonite-X were temporary, but the chunk of Kryptonite-X somehow ended up in Streaky's yarn ball, making recharging easy. Streaky and Supergirl went years without figuring out where Streaky's powers came from if they ever found out.

Streaky had a descendant in the Legion of Super-Heroes' 30th Century named Whizzy, who also had Kryptonian powers. Whether these powers were natural or the yarn ball was passed down through the centuries is unknown.

Beppo Beppo was a Kryptonian monkey (that's some wicked parallel evolution....) who somehow managed to stow away on the rocket that brought baby Kal-El to Earth. Natually, Beppo gained super powers once exposed to Earth's yellow sun and lower than Kryptonian gravity. Apparently keeping a low profile for years, Beppo appeared on the scene during Kal-El's time as Superboy. Beppo used his super-simian powers to cause trouble and mischief, even nearly exposing Superboy's secret identity. Superboy managed to trick Beppo into deep space, and it took the monkey years to return. Upon his return, he was rediscovered by Supergirl. Krypto and Streaky were initially not pleased, though they eventually accepted Beppo as one of them.

Comet Comet began life as a Biron, a centaur in ancient Greece, where he saved Circe the sorceress from an enemy. In gratitude, she offered to grant him a wish. He asked to be changed into a human so that he could court Circe. She cast the spell, but said enemy sabotaged the spell so that, rather than being made fully human, Biron was made fully equine. Circe was able to fix the spell enough that Biron could become fully human whenever there was a comet in the sky. Thus, the name Comet.

Comet was basically a flying horse. However, his powers were magic-based, so Kryptonite affected him as it would a non-Kryptonian, and he kept his powers under a red sun. Comet was an occasional love interest for Supergirl in his human form. In fact, they even ended up married!

In a Legion of Super-Pets story, Comet took human form and joined as Biron the Bowman. However, since there's rarely a comet visible in the sky, his default mode was that of a horse.

The Legion of Super-Pets

The Legion of Super-Pets was an auxilliary group to the Legion of Super-Heroes. It consisted of Krypto, Streaky, Beppo, Comet, and Proty II (a member of the amorphous, shape-changing Protean race). Proty II was truly intelligent, however, as opposed to being an animal. Eventually, he left the Legion of Super-Pets to become a photographer. A more detailed entry on Proty II was not included on this page due to his not being a member of he Superman Family. However, the following list of appearances of the Legion of Super-Pets is a good start when looking for Super-Pet stories.
