   The first survey of MonessenŐs historic sites was conducted by the Steel Industry Heritage Association in the 1980s. An additional, unofficial, survey was conducted by the Heritage Coalition in the 1990s. This list is incomplete and represents only sites for consideration.  If you have an artifact or building you consider historically significant, let us know. If you wish to be a part of a committee to further investigate this matter, let us know.

Finnish Steam Bath and Sauna, Motheral Avenue, foundation only.
Fifth Avenue Hotel, Fifth and Schoonmaker.
First Baptist Church, 611 Schoonmaker, founded 1902.
First Christian Church, 115 Sixth Street between Donner and Schoonmaker, founded 1900, building erected in 1909.
First Methodist Church, Fourth and Schoonmaker, organized in 1898, construction began 1899, new building 1930. Now the United Methodist Church.
First Presbyterian Church, 689 McKee (at Sixth), founded 1898, building erected in 1924-25.  Currently the  Newness of Life.
First United  Presbyterian Church, 209 Fourth, founded 1898, building erected in 1900.
Franco Belgian Beneficial Society, 640 Third Street.
Grace United  Methodist Church,  Reed Ave. between Fourth and Sixth,  founded 1898, building 1913. Currently Masonic Lodge 638.
Holy Name of Jesus Roman Catholic, Reed Avenue,  organized in 1901. first  building 1906,   new building 1953. Closed, up for sale.
Hungarian Beneficial Club, 221 Parente Blvd.
IW Abel Union Hall, Eighth and Schoonmaker, now Landmark Place, a private establishment.
John Check Building, Schoonmaker Avenue. Currently the Monessen Business Center.
Linden School, Rostraver and Linden, empty.

St. Cajetan Roman Catholic  Italian Church,  Knox Avenue, established 1920, building constructed in 1958. Now  Epiphany of Our Lord, the only Catholic Church functioning in Monessen.
St. John the Divine Orthodox Church, 42 McKee Avenue.  Russian or Rusyn, established in  1914 .
St. Leonard's Catholic Church, 721 Schoonmaker, established in 1900, Catholic mother church in Monessen, currently The Orchard.
St. Luke Lutheran Church, 425 Reed Avenue,  Finnish, established in 1899.
St. Michael Antiochian Orthodox Church, 535 Ninth Street,  established 1914.  Currently the
St. Michael's built a new church on Patton Avenue.
St. Nicholas Ukrainian  Orthodox Church, 17 Reed Avenue, established  c1920, now the  Mount Calvary Baptist Church.
St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church,  Eighth Street, founded 1903, building 1911.
St. Hyacinth Roman Catholic  Church, Reed Avenue Polish 1909. Currently the Mt Calvary Baptist Church.
Slovonsky Presbyterni Kostbl, 916(?) Knox, currently Fellowship Baptist Church. Best architecture.

Trinity Protestant Episcopal Church, 688(?) Reed, currently Gate of Heaven Church of God in Christ. Bricks and stones from Gibsonton Distillery.

Viaduct Bar, Rostraver and Reed.
Viaduct Bridge (original structure changed considerable)
Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Company. A fully integrated mill from coke ovens to rail mill. Portions purchased by Westmoreland County in 1994-5. Mostly demolished.
William H. Donner Home at 435 McKee Avenue.
